On Tuesday, Cochrane morning commuters faced a slow start as a vehicle fire forced traffic to stop eastbound on Hwy 1A.

Fire Chief with Cochrane Fire Services Shawn Polley said it happened at around 7 a.m.

"It was a pretty standard small red SUV. It looks like it had a mechanical issue on the hill about two kilometres east of Centre Ave. At 6:51 a.m., fire services was notified of this vehicle fire on the hill, we responded and put it out."

"There was one sole occupant and no injuries."

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Traffic has since resumed to normal.
