Producers should be checking if they qualify for a livestock tax deferral.

The final list for 2016 of regions eligible for this deferral has been released, and includes producers in the M.D. of Foothills, the M.D. of Pincher Creek, and the M.D. of Willow Creek.

The deferral is designated to drought regions who are facing feed shortages to defer a portion of their sales from breeding livestock to the next year.

When submitting your 2016 income tax returns, you can request the deferral if you're eligible, or send an adjustment request directly to Canada Revenue Agency if you have already submitted your returns.

For 2017, the government is looking into a livestock tax deferral for producers facing hardships in B.C.
