The first phase of Alberta’s distribution of free non-medical masks has now ended for the time being.

More than 14 million masks were handed out at A&W, McDonald’s Canada, and Tim Hortons drive-thrus across the province since June 8.

The initiative was introduced by the Alberta government as part of the province's relaunch strategy; to safely reopen the economy while protecting Albertans from COVID-19.

Alberta is the only province in Canada that introduced this initiative.

The distribution of free non-medical masks has been on put on pause for now but will return with a  second phase in July.

Albertans who have not received a mask and would like one can continue to call 211 to request a package.

In July, another 20 million masks will be distributed to Albertans through drive-thrus as well as other partners.

The province will provide more details in the next couple of weeks.
