Town council has agreed to provide the Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES) the full $50,000 promised.

During budget liberations, town council had reduced it by $10,000 to $40,000. That move conflicted with an existing agreement, town CAO Dave Devana explained at last night's council meeting.

CAES acting president Marina Chabbert was thrilled to see the funds reinstated.

"It means that we have more funds to deliver the same quality programming that we want to deliver and that people have come to expect. So, we're very pleased."

CAES offers 12-hours of programming on Canada Day that includes main stage music, wandering performers, and family-friendly activities.

Because it's a statutory holiday, booking prices are higher, Chabbert says.

"We have the extra challenge of hiring people on a stat holiday. Everything is double in price because it's a stat."

Thanks to town funding, no admission is charged for the celebration.

This is the last year in an existing agreement. A new three-year agreement begins in 2021.
