Registration is open for the Kingsmith Builders 2023 Monumental Tournament of Aces (MTA).
It's the 16th annual event that will see golfers come out for a day filled with giving, games, prizes, laughter, and fun.
Tournament chair Glen Gryzko, with the Rotary Club of Cochrane said this isn't your typical golf tournament.
"If you can pick up a golf club, you can play in this tournament. You can roll it along the ground, you can throw the ball, whatever you want. It's really just a lot of fun. Anybody can play, even if you're 10 years old and can pick up a golf club, if you're 80 years old and have played golf all your life, you can come out and have fun. It's become a tradition of doing that in the community."
Funds raised from this year's event will go towards new playgrounds at Glenbow School and Westbrook School, expanding BGC of Cochrane & Area and buying a new bus for Big Hill Lodge.
Kelly Kimmett said it's amazing to watch the support grow each year.
"We had a lot of support from the community as soon as Lindsay passed away, and it's just continued on for 16 years now in both the golf tournament and the hockey tournament. The foundation has raised over $3.5 million for projects here in town and all over the world."
Lindsay Kimmett was killed in a tragic vehicle collision on February 17th, 2008. To learn more about the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation, go HERE.
The MTA tournament itself has brought in $1.25 million over the last 15 years.
The Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Foundation and Cochrane Search and Rescue will share the proceeds of the tournament.
Some of the holes will feature some unique ways to play including floating greens and teeing off with vintage golf clubs.
"There's a game where you shoot a golf ball with a hockey stick into a net. There's a gong show, there's a place where you're trying to hit innocent bystanders. There's about five or six different games." said Kimmett.
The tournament goes on Saturday, Sept. 30 at The Links of GlenEagles.
There will be a live and silent auction followed by a banquet after the golf game.
There are lots of ways to get involved in the event. You can learn more and register HERE.
