Thirteen athletes of the Cochrane Endurance Project will be wearing two hats at the Cross Country Nationals in Ottawa, Nov. 27.

Ranging from U18 to men's masters, they've been named to Team Alberta's A, B, and C teams and will also be scoring points for the Cochrane Endurance Project.

Head coach Travis Cummings says they had a few athletes named to Team Alberta at the last nationals in Abbotfords in 2019, but nothing of this magnitude.

"It's a pretty big deal for the club," says Cummings. "I think there were 62 athletes declared to Team Alberta and we have 13 of them, so that's pretty good."

Courtney Brohart, Sophia Nowicki, and Jessica Kaiser have been named to Alberta's six-member Senior Women's A team. Their teammates are all from the University of Calgary Athletics Club.

At the Nov. 7th provincial championship, Brohart was first, Nowicki 5th, and Kaiser 7th.

Csenia Irvin, Holly Moores, and Makenna Myatt formed half of Alberta's U18 B team, and Ellie Barlow is on the C team.

In U18 boys, Clayton Grattidge, Nick Hooper, Caden Jones, and Brendan Maguire make up the bulk of Team Alberta's C team.

CEP athlete Jake White is on the junior men's team, and Ed Nowicki is on the men's masters team.

Head coach Travis Cummings says it's especially a great opportunity for their emerging cross-country athletes.

"A lot of them haven't represented the province at a national competition, so it's quite an honour for them," says Cummings. "They're pumped."

"It's been a pretty successful season, so it's a good feather in the cap for the kids. For most of them, it will be the biggest race they've ever been in. There are like 250 athletes in both U18 races, so it should be pretty exciting."

The team heads to Ottawa on Nov. 25 and will preview the course the following day.
