139  shots, 18 goals, four points.

The Cochrane Generals owned the Lomond Lakers in a home-and-home series Friday and Saturday night to keep a grip on second in the south division of the Heritage Junior Hockey League.

Last night, the Gens shut out the Lakers, 8-0, on home ice. The evening before, the Gens kept the Lakers to just two goals in their 8-2 victory in Claresholm.

Last night was an 11-point night for the line of Dean Olenyk, Patrick Forde and Zachary Stewart. Oleynk racked up another hat trick, Forde put in two, and Stewart had three helpers.

Captain Brandon Aab sniped a pair and assisted on another. Taylor Girard and Scott Shugg scored the others.

Scott Shugg had a hat trick Friday night, while Forde and Oleynk both scored a pair, and Zack Cugnet rounded out the scoring.

Last night's shutout was the icing on the cake for Garber, who has set a new team record for most starts by a goalie. It was his 63rd start and 65th appearance with the junior club.

The game was his third shut out of the season and his seventh as a General.

He's made 1,988 saves between the pipes for the club, allowed only 178 goals, and has had a steady save percentage of just over 90 per cent.

Garber says the team is looking good.

"We're pretty hot, I mean, we haven't lost in 2020 so I'm feeling good with our team right now " says Garber. "We're rolling."

While he only faced 20 shots in Sunday's game, Garber says it's important to keep moving, and be ready for when the shots do come.

He did shut down some potential goal-scoring opportunities for the Lakers.

"They had some good chances, but the team played pretty well in front of me for the most part."

The Gens are on a seven-game winning streak and haven't lost one since the Christmas break.

They only have one game next weekend, but it's a big one.

They head to the Murray Arena on Feb. 2 to take on the league-leading Okotoks Bisons. They've come close twice, even outperformed them, but remain in the hunt for their first points against the Bisons this season.

The regular season ends with a three-game finale Feb. 7 to 9. Those three games will determine who finishes second in the south.

Two are against the Medicine Hat Cubs, who are hot on their trail. The other is against the north division-leading Airdrie Techmation Thunder.
