Labour Day weekend is one of Cochrane's most significant events of the year. Featuring the Cochrane Lions Club rodeo, numerous pancake breakfasts, and the historic Labour Day Parade.
"We have a full line depth of floats and entries that have registered" explains Marina Chabbert with The Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES). "We have approximately 50 entries, keeping in mind that some of these entries have a couple of entries each. This will give us a really healthy parade and lots to see and lots of entertainment."
The 54th Annual Cochrane Labour Day Parade will take over downtown Cochrane with pre-parade festivities starting at 9 a.m. Monday, September 5, 2022.
"We have Chinook line dancers that will be featured on Main Street, towards the Fourth Avenue intersection. There's Riverside Jazz Band and that will be in the Centennial Plaza. We have a Three Hat Circus that is coming back in front of the bowling alley. We have Mini Thini dancers that are coming in and they will be near the library."
Cochranites can also expect to see jugglers, stilt walkers, magicians, YYC Princesses, and an appearance by Batman all before the parade launches at 10 a.m.
"People do put out their seats quite early in the morning with the barricades going up at 8 a.m. sharp. People can really start lining up between eight and nine.
"Bring your lawn chair, bring some water, bring some sunglasses, it's gonna be a great day."
Chabbert says that this parade will feature numerous, can't-miss floats and entries. "The Ghostbusters are coming in! I believe it's a replica of the Ghostbuster (Ecto-1) from the filming that they did in Alberta."
CAES is able to host such large events due to the contributions of many volunteers and Chabbert says this year they have had an outpouring of support.
"I think that we've got our list of volunteers pretty settled right now. If there are people that want to come on down to our volunteer tent, we will be at the RBC parking lot so they can certainly see if there's any room for them."
Lauren & Eric from 91.5 FM CochraneNow will be broadcasting live during the parade with a birds-eye view on the second story of the Rockyview Hotel.
