On July 3, a message of peace will come to town.

International runners from Sri Chinmoy Oneness will be coming through town with their torch and an important message.

Sarita Earp, one of the Canadian Coordinators, says the run has occurred in 140 countries and will bring 12 runners together representing nine countries. The run occurs between April and August and will see a variety of different runners join the team throughout the duration.

The point of the run is to bring a message of peace.

"It is done with a simple thing of people running down the road running into communities with a lit torch."

Earp says the experience is impactful and you can feel the message it brings.

"It carries the message in it you can feel it. In other words their is an inner feeling that you feel, because everyone in their heart wants peace. It carries a magic to it."

When the team comes into any event they will also take time time to sing some songs and if children are present they will perform a skit.

Community members are invited to come down to Centennial Plaza on July 3, at 2 pm to greet the runners and hold the torch.

"Whoever comes gets to pass the torch to each other and hold it. That is the point of us being there to share it."

Following the 2 pm ceremony, the runners will be headed two miles up the 1A hill on the way to Calgary.

The last time the run was in Cochrane was in 2012.
