Paterson GlobalFoods (PGF) announced Thursday the construction of an oat processing facility in northwest Winnipeg.

The facility will be located adjacent to the company's existing inland grain terminal and will be situated on Manitoba’s largest private rail siding.

“Paterson’s new oat mill will allow PGF to continue to diversify its commodity business with value added products for the benefit of consumers and farmers alike,” said Andrew Paterson, PGF’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

The new oat mill to be known as O Foods Ltd. and when completed, will annually process up to 250,000 metric tonnes of raw oats from western Canadian farmers.

The facility will produce a full range of high health oat products for the world market.

“Paterson Global Foods is a Manitoba success story that has helped make our province a great place to live, work and do business,” said Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister. “Manitoba is leading the nation in private sector capital investment and our government is committed to building off that momentum to create 40,000 private sector jobs over the next four years. I want thank Paterson for their historic investment today and for their continued confidence in the growth of our province.”

Construction is starting immediately.
