The scaffolding is now going up to prepare for the addition of a third floor to the Garmin Canada headquarters in downtown Cochrane.

The highly-anticipated expansion of Garmin Canada's headquarters, 30 Bow St. in the Quarry, will add another 200 employees, the vast majority in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) positions.

The building was originally designed to accommodate a third floor, in anticipation of future growth. Admittedly, it came quicker than originally anticipated, and that's good news for Cochrane.

The project is expected to take about a year to complete.

The expansion of Garmin's operation and building were announced on Feb. 6 at a press conference involving company and town officials as well as Alberta Municipal Affairs minister Rebecca Schultz.
