Airdrie RCMP held a press conference this morning (September 17) at 11 a.m. to discuss details regarding last evening's shooting in the CrossIron Mills parking lot.

Inspector Kimberley Pasloske, Airdrie RCMP Detachment Commander says at around 7:09 last evening (September 16), Airdrie RCMP along with Calgary Police Service responded to a report of an active shooter at the CrossIron Mills mall located in Balzac.

Upon their arrival at the scene, it was determined that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of CrossIron Mills mall near the food court entrance resulting in injuries to one male. The victim was transported to the hospital where he is still being treated at this time in an unspecified location.

Law enforcement authorities remained on the scene for numerous hours, and the mall was placed in a 'secure in place' while officers worked to clear the mall and evacuate all citizens to safety. 

RCMP are now on the hunt for a male with a slender build who is said to have fled the scene with an accomplice in a black 2019 Dodge Ram four-door pick up truck.

Giving thanks to all the resources that were deployed to the incident; including CPS, RCMP Police Dog Services, the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Airdrie Municipal Enforcement, Rocky View County Enforcement and Fire Department, EMS, CPS Hawcs, CPS canine unit, Cochrane and Strathmore RCMP detachments, and the CrossIron Mills Mall Security for their hard work. It is reported that approximately 600 employees and several thousand patrons were safely evacuated.
