The three-day total of new cases of COVID-19 in the province since Friday is 3,056.

The numbers break down to 1,231 cases Friday, 960 on Saturday, and 865 on Sunday.

There are now 11,426 active cases in Alberta with a positivity rate of over 10 per cent.

Over the three days, hospitalizations continued to rise with 65 more people in the hospital than on Friday making for a total of 401. Of those, 319 people are unvaccinated, 13 are partially vaccinated and 69 are fully vaccinated.

ICU admissions also increased by 24 since Friday for a total of 98.

Sadly, an additional seven deaths were also reported bringing that grim total in the province to 2,371.

To date, 5,551,932 doses of vaccine have been administered. There was a slight increase in vaccination uptake with 77.9 per cent of eligible Albertans receiving one dose of the vaccine while 69.7 per cent of the provincial population has been fully immunized.

Today, AHS announced that as of September 1, 2021, third dose vaccinations will be available for all seniors living in congregate care facilities. Also, Albertans that are immunocompromised will be eligible for a third COVID-19 vaccine shot.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw says, “The data shows that additional doses will offer stronger protection for immunocompromised individuals and older Albertans living in supportive living facilities. Just as we offer these individuals earlier access to COVID-19 vaccines and a shorter four-week interval between doses, we will continue to work to protect all Albertans as new data emerges. However, the best way for us to protect each other is still for as many people as possible to be fully immunized.”

Cochrane is reporting 39 active COVID-19 cases while Rocky View County now has 95 active cases.
