Alberta looked to heading to the gold medal game of the U18 Football Canada Cup until a yellow flag was thrown with zeros on the clock in a semifinal game against Quebec, July 10.

Instead, they'll be facing Saskatchewan late Saturday afternoon in the bronze medal game at Regina's Mosiac Stadium.

Leading 11-9 with no time on the clock, Alberta blocked the kick and recovered a ball. A 10-yard objectional conduct penalty was called when the team raced on to field to celebrate before the final whistle had blown.

In the redo, Quebec's Tristan Charpentier sailed a 32-yd kick through the uprights.

Alberta was trailing 9-3 until early in the third when Seth Poelzer rushed for six yards to score their lone touchdown of the game and take a 10-9 lead. A touchback in the fourth opened up a two-point lead.

Cochrane Cobras defensive back Solomon Carlson registered a tackle and assist in the game. Also on the team from the Cobras are D-lineman Bennett Fauth, and O-lineman Caleb Wetherell.

For Saskatchewan, yesterday was the end of their four-year run as Canadian champions after falling to Ontario, 32-7.

Ontario and Quebec will be playing for gold.
