Eighteen months ago, Cochrane’s Jorja Polischuk did a live performance in the CochraneNow studio in preparations for the 2020 Cochrane Rotary Youth Talent Festival. She has now gone on to join the cast of the MacEwan University production of The World Goes ‘Round.

The production, which launched last night, features something most artists have not seen in almost two years. A live audience.

“It's actually crazy. Performing last night and to hear people clapping and cheering for you is, oh my gosh, it's something that we have gone so long without hearing and it was the strangest feeling ever,” explains Jorja Polischuk.  “The performers were unmasked and the audience is masked. We're really lucky to be able to be on stage without masks and to actually interact with each other like we would have pre-pandemic, it's crazy.”

The World Goes 'Round is a revue of John Kander and Fred Ebb, one of Broadway’s biggest songwriting teams. Their collaborations include Cabaret, Chicago, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Scottsborogh Boys, and The Visit.

“The show really suits the circumstances that we're in right now. Which, you know, no matter what happens, our world just keeps going round and with the mess of COVID and things like that. I think it's it's great timing for a show like this. So I'm really excited about it.”

“Because it's a revue, there's a ton of songs in it,  it's sort of like a song cycle. I have two solo numbers in the show. One is called ‘My Colouring Book’, and the other is called ‘Isn't This Better?’.

The MacEwan University production of The World Goes ‘Round has multiple shows throughout the weekend and tickets are still available here.
