There's good news for parents hoping to register their children for the Bike Safety Day being offered free of charge by the Cochrane Kiwanis Club and Bike Cochrane.

Kiwanis Club president Ron Gosselin says there are an extra 40 spots available, thanks to more bike technicians stepping forward to help.

"The capacity is driven by the number of technicians that we have to do the bike and helmet inspection," he explains. "We were successful in adding another technician which basically gives you the capacity to handle another 10 kids per hour."

The original 120 spots available filled up within two days. shutting the door on many who attempted to register. Now a total of 160 youth can participate.

During one-hour time slots, volunteer technicians will inspect bikes and check helmets. RCMP officers will be providing safety tips and a test course will be set up to practice bike safety skills. Afterward, youth are invited to enjoy riding on Bike Cochrane's LaunchPad adjacent to the safety event.
