They say that during dark times people show their true colours and this has proved to hold true for Cochranites.

While supporting each other as a community isn't new for Cochrane residents, the community has truly stepped up, come together and shone a rainbow over the town during this global health crisis.

Residents from every corner of Cochrane have participated in a string of parades to show their appreciation for our first responders.

Corporal Troy Savinkoff with the Cochrane RCMP says that he has been completely blown away by the outpour of support, as well as the generous donations for the food bank.

He says "Us, obviously partnering with EMS and the fire department pretty much did a parade in every single neighbourhood in Cochrane. We found the results of that to be extremely overwhelmingly positive. There were a lot of people outside banging their pots and pans, and people were extraordinarily generous. "

Savinkoff says that they left each parade with at least one full truckload of donations for the food bank and in one particular community they filled three police trucks full of food.

He says that the food bank was "ecstatic" to see the generous donations and they have had volunteers working overtime to help unload.

"They ensured when the food was collected that they had volunteers coming in on their own time after hours to help us deposit it into their area. We received a lot of food, and we received some gift cards and cash donations as well."

Savinkoff says that the donations will go a long way to help people throughout the community during this especially trying time.
