Holding a community grassroots bottle drive in support of the Royal Canadian Legion's Poppy Fund has become a Cochrane tradition.

The bottle drive kicks off Monday, Nov. 7, and continues until Saturday, Nov. 12.

For the convenience of donors, a trailer will be parked outside of the Legion Hall, 114 5th Ave., and will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for drop-offs. The trailer will be locked in the evening.

Paul Singh, one of the volunteers heading up the annual drive, says it's about showing respect and honouring our veterans for serving our nation.

"We've been very fortunate that every time we've got an initiative, people are very supportive, especially for a good cause like Remembrance Day and our veterans," says Singh.

He says they appreciate how some businesses have already indicated they will be donating their bottles.

"It is fantastic how the people and community come together for causes like this. That's what Cochrane's known for."

It's the first time the trailer has been located at the Legion for the drive, and he believes it provides an opportunity for people to drop in at the hall and learn more about how they can assist the Legion.
