"Stop the Spike" seems to be gaining momentum, with the province reporting 732 new cases of COVID-19 today (Friday, May 21) with a positivity rate of 7.2%.

Hospitalizations dropped by 27 cases for a total of 638 and ICU admissions remained unchanged at 177.

Sadly, two more deaths were reported bringing that total to 2,164.

Cochrane dropped another 14 cases for a total of 104 active COVID-19 cases while Rocky View County also dropped by 12 to 204.

There are 16,577 active cases in the province.

To date, 2.4 million doses of vaccine have been administered in the province.

Dr. Hinshaw asked yesterday that everyone remain vigilant as things are improving but remain fragile.

"Please follow the rules, avoid in-person interactions with people outside your household, especially indoors, and avoid non-essential travel wherever possible. The weather is warming up, the sun is shining and summer is just around the corner. If we all stay vigilant and do our part just one more time, this might be the last long weekend when such sacrifices are necessary. So, make this the safest May long weekend ever. Get vaccinated, stay safe, and please keep following the rules."
