A little bit of rain didn't dampen the spirit at the 2nd Annual Mayor's Invitational Golf Tournament on Monday.

Cochrane Mayor Jeff Genung says they've tallied the numbers and they were able raise $85,000 for the trail.

"It was amazing to have so many smiling faces and so many contributors from across our community. Business people, organizations, individuals, just everyone had a great time and raised money for a great cause with the trail. Last year we were $81,000 I believe, and this year we surpassed that."

"I'm always just overwhelmed with the support, when you ask for help from our community, people just come in droves. It's overwhelming to just see how many people just showed up and contributed either by volunteering or financially."

Genung says the trail is going to be an amazing addition to our trail system in Cochrane.

"Connecting our community to Calgary through the Glenbow Ranch by a three-metre paved trail as part of the Great Trail that's crossing our nation. It makes so much sense in so many ways. Economic development initiatives, opportunities for people to be active, we saw that and the importance of trails throughout our community during Covid."

He says the wheels are already turning for the 3rd Annual Mayor's Invitational Golf Tournament. Although a benefactor hasn't been decided upon just yet, Genung confirms the event will go ahead next year.
