Anticipation is building around the opening of one Canada's largest warm water therapy pools.

Cochrane's new aquatic centre will be home to a 55x35 foot pool which will provide relief for a variety of ailments.

Kim Wedgerfield-Anderson a Calgary resident says this new pool will be a godsend. Wedgerfield-Anderson was hit by a drunk driver in 1989, has Huntington's Disease, and a spinal cord injury from being hit by a welding truck.

This will not be the first time Wedgerfield- Anderson has experienced a warm water pool, and says the benefits are amazing.

"Because of the injuries I have and the Huntington's disease if I am in cold, I just seize up. My whole body seizes up and it just becomes extremely painful; the warm water helps without being too hot like a hot tub to do the exercises and different things to loosen up the body and get it fluid again. The warm water therapy pool in Cochrane will be fantastic because it's got the bars, it's got the ramps, all the things I need to get my body fluid and moving so it's not so painful."

Wedgerfield-Anderson is a retired paratriathlete for Canada, and says this pool will allow so many people suffering from a variety of illnesses and injuries to live a more physically fulfilling life.

"There is a lot of athletes with disabilities, athletes or just people disabled with MS, Parkinson's, and all the other sort of injuries or amputees, this will offer a lot of us the opportunity for us to come out and do the things we need to do without having kids jumping on us or people trying to do laps and we're in their way. It will just be something that will really help us out a great deal."

Wedgerfield-Anderson has to exercise 2 to 4 hours a day to keep herself physically mobile, and says the commute to Cochrane will be well worth it.
