There's been a strong initial response to a free youth basketball clinic being offered on Apr. 30, and more are welcomed.

The Filipino-Canadian Association of Cochrane Alberta (FCACA) in partnership with the Dadiguz Basketball and Beyond Foundation, as well as many other generous supporters, have again teamed up to offer the clinic for a third year.

It runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the SLS Centre gym and is open to anyone 7 to 16 years old.

Mike Bautista, FCACA president and founder of Sunday Hoops, says it's a chance for youth to learn from basketball professionals, be physically active, develop team spirit, win prizes, have fun with friends, and make some new ones.

Andy De Guzman, program director of Calgary Blizzards Basketball and a former player in the Philippines Basketball Association, will once again be leading the training with his team of coaches.

"I just talked to Andy this morning (Apr. 14) and everything is confirmed," says Bautista. "Four professional coaches are coming and they're going to provide the kids with proper basketball training."

Bautista says he is thankful for the many who have come together to offer the clinic.

Last year over 30 youths participated in the clinic. This year they've teamed up with BGC Cochrane and Area and about 50 have preregistered so far.

"This event wouldn't happen without your support," he says."Thank you."

To register or get more details, you can message Mike Bautista or Edwin Aguanta.

Mike and EdselEdsel Madrid and Mike Bautista check out the trophies that have just arrived for the two all-star games on Apr. 30.

Even before the kids hit the court, there'll be plenty of buzz in the air, thanks to a pair of all-star fundraising games from 7 to 9 a.m.

Bautista's team of Cochrane Veterans will be playing select players from the Sunday Hoops Alex Tumang basketball league in the first of two all-star basketball games. The Rising Hoop Stars will take to the court in the second game.

Funds raised will assist the BGC Cochrane and Area and the local food bank.
