Fish and Wildlife officers continue their search for the bear, believed to be a grizzly, who attacked a man on July 2 at Harold Creek and in the meantime have closed the are to the public.

Fish and Wildlife officials say the area has been closed while they actively attempt to trap the bear. Should they capture the bear they will determine what next steps will be taken at that point.

Earlier in the afternoon of July 2, a man in his 50s was confronted by a bear while in a heavily wooded area attempting to find a geocache site. The bear knocked the man down and attempted to drag him but the man successfully fought it of with his walking stick. He made it back to his vehicle and drove into Water Valley with nonlife-threatenting injuries.

Should you have any questions on the closure area phone the Cochrane district office at 403-932-2388.
