Thanks to the viral online challenge, thousands of dollars have been donated to local non-profit animal charities by fans of the late Betty White. Monday was the day the famous animal lover would have turned 100.

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society is still receiving donations in memory of the late actress. As of Tuesday afternoon, the grand total is sitting over $33,000. The shelter has been receiving donations throughout the month since the challenge was announced and the funds will go a long way.

Local non-profit animal shelter, Garcia Rescue had $4,720 donated to their organization.

“What a fantastic day of celebration in her memory. Betty White was truly someone special.  The willingness to give to the animals always amazes us, they so deserve it and all the support is beyond appreciated.“ Anna Garcia wrote in a message to CochraneNow.

The Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary saw donations roll in throughout the day which added up to $8,635. The non-profit Sanctuary, just minutes west of Cochrane is dedicated to raising awareness around wolfdog ownership. The funds will go a long way in public education, various programs, and general care for the numerous wolfdogs who call the sanctuary home.

Donations in Betty White’s memory continue to grow even though her birthday has passed.
