There was a bear spotted in Cochrane's south side today

Several residents took to social media on Sunday afternoon warning others after they saw the bear making its way through our town.

It was spotted near Riviera at around 1:30 p.m. and in Precedence at around 3 p.m.

It is not uncommon for bear sightings to happen in our community as they tend to follow the river and continue though Cochrane.

A reminder to be bear aware both in and outside of town:

  • Carry bear spray (be sure to check the expiration date.
  • Make noise
  • Keep all pets on a leash and close to you at all times.
  • Be aware of your surroundings on walking on trails
  • Be respectful of the space and needs of wildlife

If you do encounter a bear or any other wildlife that could be a public safety concern you are asked to call the 24-hour Report-A-Poacher line at 1-800-642-3800.
