The Bow Valley Bobcats finished their first home game of the season on a high note.

The team didn't win but closed the gap on a 21-3 lead held by the W. H. Croxford Cavaliers in the final minute of the game. A late touchdown by Ben Oliver made it 21-10. Then, kicker Autumn Carr delivered a sidekick that was fumbled by a Croxford player, recovered by Gavyn Roper and taken out of bounds to give the Bobcats one more chance to claw away at the score. Time won out and the score remained 21-10.

Cavaliers head coach John Remus-Everitt says it as a good win for his team. It was their second of the season, the first a 38-13 victory over the George McDougall Mustangs.

"The kids have been practicing all week and putting things into play and I'm glad to see it all came together to get us a win today."

The two teams scrimmaged early in the season to help the Bobcats with their rebuilding process. Head coach Matt Lane says the Bobcats continue to improve with each game.

"They were close to making some great plays," says Lane. "We are working to clean up some of the finer details. We got a lot of pressure up the middle, which hurts, but we'll address that."

"Each game we look better, we put up more points. We're starting to look like a solid team."

While the Bobcats have been winless, there is no shortage of team spirit.

"They fought through the entire game, and they have all year, They've been rallying around each other, which is amazing to see. We have a young team, and about 80 per cent of them are back next year, which is awesome."

Bobcats Autumn CarrBobcat kicker Autumn Carr kicks to the sideline in the dying seconds of the game. Gavyn Roper recovered the ball after it was fumbled by a Cavalier.

"They are committed and I love their work ethic at practice. They've been training hard and they've been conditioning hard. We have a nice pace at practice. Now we need to roll the skills from practice over to the game."

It was a stellar game for Bobcats kicker Autumn Carr. She put up the first points in the first half with a field goal just shy of 25 yards. In the third quarter, as the last line of defense, she made a tackle to save a kick return by the Cavaliers.

Her skill as a soccer player and wrestler showed in her game.

"She has a great leg from years of soccer. It's nice to have her back there. She's not a bad tackler, either. She likes to get aggressive and put her shoulder into it. I don't like seeing her hit too much, but it's good when she does. Everybody gets excited."

The Bobcats wrap up their regular season on Oct. 10 against the Springbank Phoenix. The Cochrane Cobras wrap up their regular season the next night in Airdrie against the Bert Church Chargers. It will be a battle of the undefeated to see who finishes first. On Saturday, the Chargers defeated Springbank, 21-13.
