A boil water advisory has been issued for the Eden Valley water supply.

Yesterday (Nov. 29), a fire broke out at one of the community's water treatment plant buildings.

Several fire departments within the Foothills responded and remained on the scene for several hours, having to contend with extreme cold as they battled the blaze.

Community members were notified of the advisory via email from Indigenous Services Canada on the same day.

They're advising residents to bring water to a rolling boil for at least a minute before consumption "due to the potential for microbial contamination that may cause illness."

It will remain in place until further notice.

The Stoney Nakoda First Nation has been working to provide potable water for residents.
