Another solid victory has lifted the Bow Valley Bobcats girls team into a playoff berth in the Rocky View Sports (RVS) soccer league.

With aggressive offensive attacks, the Bobcats grabbed a solid 4-0 lead before the Chestermere Lakers scored their only goal of the game late in the first half. The Bobcats used the healthy cushion to give their younger grade 9 players plenty of field experience in the second half. They scored two more goals to march on to a 6-1 win.

Autumn Carr lead the team with three goals in the first half while singles went to Sophia Preece, Maddi Beaulieu, and Piper Stephenson.

"It was a great game for the girls tonight," says head coach Matt Baugh.

"We've had a few good practices and I think a few things started to click. A few of the adjustments we have made are allowing us to see the field a little better and are giving us a few more chances. If you don't have any chances, it's hard to score so we're making some offense progress. They're working hard and they've become a team."

The Bobcats has a young core with only two grade 12 players. There's a real mixture of experience, everything from long-time club players. like grade 10 student Carr, to first-timers.

He says games between closely matched teams make for a better experience for the emerging team than the lopsided ones against the top teams.

"These games are really good for everybody. They get back into it again. Some of those tougher games are hard."

The club is on a two-game winning streak after a decisive 6-0 win over the George McDougall Mustangs, Sept. 26. Monday they play a makeup game against the third-place Bert Church Chargers before playoffs begin.

It's a tight race between the third and sixth place teams. At the top are the undefeated Cochrane Cobras and Springbank Phoenix, who meet on Oct. 7. No matter who wins, both of those teams have earned a bye from the first round of playoffs. The Cobras also play the winless Mustangs on Oct. 9.

Snow this week has forced RVS to redraw its playoff schedule. They are tentatively scheduled to begin Oct. 10.

What is still on the schedule are the zone championships. The Cochrane Cobras are hosting the tier 1 championship on Oct. 18-19. The tier 2 zone championship is being hosted by the Bobcats, Oct. 17, with the Bobcats, Mustangs and Brooks Buffalos participating.
