A special drive-by of Hawthorne in the Fireside community is planned for this Saturday after poor weather cancelled one scheduled for the late spring.

Cruise Cochrane organizer Jim Messner says they've received a special request to do a drive-by for the enjoyment of the residents.

"They'll be waiting for us and we'll come and do the cruise by, honking our horns and waving, just letting them know that even though the pandemic hopefully looks like it's over, we haven't forgotten them."

Afterward, they'll do a county cruise north into the James River area and back through Sundre that finishes at the Water Valley Saloon for a late lunch.

"It's always been a popular cruise," says Messner. "People really enjoyed the route. It's a very scenic, country backroad-type of drive that's beautiful, especially with everything so green. It should be a good run."

There's a later than normal start time for the day. A mini show and shine at Cochrane GM begins at noon and the cavalcade will head toward Hawthorne shortly after 1 p.m.

As always, there are door prizes for participants and the public is welcome to drop by GM to check out the rides.
