A primitive fair is coming to town.

The Cochrane proclaimed 'Medieval Day' will be held July 23 from 10 am- 4 pm. The inaugural event will see the Cochrane Public Library transform into a time where history and fantasy merge together.

After seeing a similar event in Brooks, Alberta; Gail Ames, event organizer, thought she would pitch the idea to her workplace the Cochrane Public Library.

"I found out that the Brooks Library started the affair in their parking lot,  so I came back to my boss and said hey can we start this in our parking lot?!"

Ames says their will be a ton activities for knights and princesses of all ages.

"The Ironhart Vanguard is coming so they will be doing some demonstrations and some actual fighting, a viking village set up, petting zoo, bouncy castle, crafts to do, puppet theatre to watch, there's going to be wandering minstrels and story tellers, and lots of vendors."

The event at the library will spill over to the east lot to accommodate all the activities, villages, and demonstrators.

"We have a forge coming and he will be demonstrating how they used to build things, a spinning wheel so you will be seeing how to make wool/thread, and a wool felting lady too."

Planning the event has been easy, shares Ames, as their are a lot of acronis groups (play acting) who want to be involved.

Ames is not planning a one off event. she is hoping the event's popularity will see it become an annual tradition.
