Karl Gibbie and Doug Campbell have earned the right to defend their national lawn bowling championship at the 2022 55-Plus Summer Games.

They won gold at the Alberta 55-Plus provincial playoffs in Edmonton on Aug. 27 and 28 in the 70-plus men's event.

"We're fortunate enough to come out of Edmonton and qualify for the Canada Games, so when we go to Kamloops we'll be playing against teams from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and B.C.," says Campbell.

The pair won gold at the Canadian 55-Plus championship in New Brunswick in 2018.

Gibbie is in his mid-80s, and Campbell is in his mid-70s.

Also participating from Cochrane in Edmonton was Nancy Gibbie in the 70-plus women's event. She won silver with teammate Jean Shepansky, of Edmonton. They will advance to the nationals if the gold medal team of Barbara Spencer and Vivian Kawn are unable to attend.

The national summer games are scheduled to be held from Aug. 23 to 26, 2022.
