Canadian canola exports are up so far this year, despite the situation with China.

Jon Driedger is the vice-president of LeftField Commodity Research.

"We've actually had pretty good movement early in the crop year," he said. "Exports are up over thirty per cent from where they were at the same time last year. For a market that's searching for good news, it's a bit of positive news here at the start of the crop year at least in terms of canola exports."

Driedger says there is a large carry over of canola from last year.

He adds Europe has had a tough year and it's expected that more Canadian canola will be headed to that destination.
