In a 6-1 vote today, Canmore town council rejected a second proposed development project that would have seen the town's population almost double over the next decade.

The proposed Three Sisters Village and Smith Creek projects raised numerous concerns about affordable housing, taxes and wildlife in the area.

Council recently rejected another proposed development, Smith Creek, in a unanimous decision.

Smith Creek would have added over 3,000 residents to the town and would have required an expansion of municipal development boundaries.

A public hearing was held on the two proposed developments where more than 200 people expressed concerns about the possible effects the developments would have on wildlife in the region.

The proposed commercial and residential project was rejected by all six town councillors today. Canmore Mayor John Borrowman was the only one who voted in favour of the project.
