Banff-Airdrie, MP BLake Richards will have the honours of awarding some deserving Cochranites the Canada 150 Awards.

Richards, says between 8 and 10 Cochrane and area residents are due to receive the award which honours those community members who have benefited the community through volunteerism, sports, arts or other community building activities.

While it was a difficult decision, Richards shares between 8 to 10 adults and one youth will be recognized at the ceremony taking place at the Cochrane Public Library. "There was a real diversity of nominations. We had people who had military service, significant volunteers in the community, people from the arts community, sports....it was really a broad range of people. That is what I thought was really cool about it, it wasn't just similar nominations. The common thing is these people in almost every case just had done so many different things for the community, they hadn't just done something in one area they have done numerous things over the years to the serve the community in different capacities."

While the ceremony is by invite only, MP Richards invites the public to watch the Facebook live stream here. The ceremony kicks off at 1:45 pm.
