The Lethbridge Eagles had the Cochrane Chaos scrambling for a win last night in the first of a best-of-three playoff series in the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League.

In an impressive effort, the Eagles grabbed a 2-1 lead after one but eventually fell to the Chaos in overtime, 4-3.

The Chaos fought back to tie the game 2-2 after two. Cochrane's Summer Gibbons put the Chaos ahead on a powerplay early in the third. The Eagles, though, weren't about the fold their cards and tied it up with 1o minutes remaining.

It was Kirsten Mumby who scored the winner at 8:42 in overtime from Faith Gette and Ryann Altwasser.

Mumby said the Eagles showed more fight than they had throughout the season.

"Playoff hockey is definitely different than the regular season, and so Lethbridge really brought it. We'll have to come hard tomorrow."

Speedster Kelly Stanford was the top sniper fo the Chaos, scoring the first two goals and assisting on the third.

Chaos assistant coach Ron Kozak says the team will continue to work on their structure, with focus on the defensive zone. Offensively, they did riddle skilled Eagles netminder Jasmine Rodak with 51 shots.

He says the Eagles are a better team than their record would indicate.

"The lesson here is we have to definitely have to bring our A-game for everyone in the playoffs, especially against a team like this that has a lot of speed and a lot of grit."

Should the Chaos advance from the series, he believes it will help them prepare for future rounds.

"This is a good way to start. We're not coasting through the first round. We're playing hard all the way through the playoffs."

The Chaos could wrap up the three-game series today in Lethbridge. If not, the rubber is back here in Cochrane tomorrow (Mar. 1).

The winner advances to the south final to take on either the favoured Calgary Titans or Calgary Jag.  That series also wraps up this weekend.
