Four Cochrane teams vying for their respective zone volleyball championships are coming off medal performances in divisional championship finals, last Friday.

The Cochrane High seniors boy team and junior girls teams both claimed gold while the junior boys and senior girls won silver.

The senior boys' team went through the Rocky View Schools season without losing a single match. They did the same in their two rounds of playoffs.

The W. H. Croxford Cavaliers struck first in the semifinals with a 25-23 win. The Cobras bounced back with three convincing wins, 25-16. 25-9 and 25-13.

The Cobras claimed gold by winning three straight against the Springbank Phoenix, 25-23, 25-20, and 25-23.

The Chestermere Lakers provided to be the toughest competition for the junior girls' team on their way to the gold medal. The Lakers got the upper hand in a marathon match that ended 31-29. The Cobras won the other sets 25-13, 25-18, 29-31 and 25-22.

It took five sets to determine the winner of the junior boys' gold medal. The Cobras and Phoenix team were closely matched all season and it was no different in the gold medal round. The two exchanged wins, forcing a fifth and deciding set. The Phoenix won the rubber 15-8.

In the senior girls' gold medal match, a strong Phoenix team went undefeated by winning 25-13, 25-22, 25-18 against the Cobras. The Phoenix finished on top in the regular season, closely followed by the Cobras.

Cochrane junior boys teams enter zone round-robin play tomorrow at Airdrie's George McDougall, and the junior girls are at W. H. Croxford. 

The senior girls are at Highwood in High River, and the senior boys play in Strathmore.
