The second Cochrane Wide Clean up is coming up on October 2,  and organizers need your help.

The afternoon clean up is not only about cleaning and beautifying Cochrane, but raising awareness to be more environmentally conscious.

Tim Giese, Co-Organizer for the Clean Up says this event should instill pride in all residents of Cochrane and surrounding community.

"We want to keep a nice town, a clean town. We want to address environmental issues- litter is always an environmental issue regardless of where it is and regardless the quantity, it always important to stay on top of things like litter."

Giese adds when it comes to being litter aware, it is not the kids we need to teach.

"Kids are usually pretty tuned in to this stuff, I have to give credit to a lot of the schools they have strong environmental programs. We find the kids are usually very enthusiastic and very excited and it's them trying to get their parents out and convince them they need to come out and participate. It is not always what we think it is."

The premise of the clean up is simple; 12 locations to pick up bags and gloves from, pick up trash anywhere in Cochrane, and drop bags back off at one of 12 spots.

As the town grows, Giese imagines the Clean Up will go through some changes in implementation.

"We will see how the fall event went, the spring event went really well. As the town is being expanded there is lots of waste that comes from construction and people coming through town. I think once they get into this, more and more people will get into it and say this is annual right of spring/ an annual right of fall, to just take a few moments to help make this a better community."

Families of all ages are able to help with the Cochrane Wide Clean Up running Sunday, October 2, 12:30-2:30 pm. If you have any questions about the event you can email marnifedeyko@gmail.com

"We are all trying to make this a better community and this is just one of the many different  programs that will do that."
