Only three days into the competition, Cochrane area athletes are off to a strong start at the Canada Summer Games.

Cochrane High alumni Avery Kelly and her teammate Alex Sinik are on top of female beach volleyball after winning their first two sets against Manitoba and Saskatchewan. They face Nova Scotia this afternoon.

The male ball team, which includes Cochrane's Simon Baker, won their first three games. Alberta is currently leading Quebec in their only game of the day.

It's the first day on the mats for Cochrane's Nicholas Hooper, of the Cochrane Cowboys.

Other competitors include Cochrane road cyclist Kaden Colling, Rocky View County's Wyatt Viste, and Cremona swimmer Erica Poitras.

Cochrane's Karen Fommett is a member of the mission staff.

The games are being hosted by Ontario's Niagara region and continue until Aug. 21.

Watch for regular updates.
