Cochrane BMX was represented well at Provincial Races 3 and 4 in Medicine Hat.

Brad Christensen, Cochrane BMX Club President, says it was a weekend filled with lots of action.

"There were so many close finishes, our representative riders from Cochrane were just awesome, a couple of kids got double gold both days."

Christensen partly attributes the club's success to early spring weather.

"With the early start to the season it seems all the riders in Alberta are out and excelling at a faster pace than normal. We have a couple 8, 9, and 10 year olds that managed to pull off the double gold. It shows, all of Alberta has been riding and people are riding at very high level, so it is exciting to watch."

Christensen also credits great coaching for getting the youth motivated and interested.

"We've got some great coaches this year that are pushing these kids, and pushing their goals, and pushing their boundaries. They are learning lots, they are all 6-10 year old range, they soak in the knowledge, they put in the hours on the track, and it is starting to show.

Christensen names a few riders of many that we should keep our eyes on.

"Mason Pike, he is an 8 intermediate rider he finished off gold and gold Saturday and Sunday, he is an up and comer he's definitely a little go getter. Sam Scott and Brock Foster those guys are 10 expert and 10 intermediate they both also pulled off double golds. Those three are definitely turning heads around Alberta and there will be lots more wins for them, I can see it coming."

Provincial Races 5 and 6 are in Airdrie July 23 and 24.

Christensen says in the meantime they are holding Strider Wednesday's for future BMXers.

"The 2, 3, 4 year olds will do a couple of straights on the track, so it is always fun and exciting. Anyone on a strider can come out, grab a helmet, and a little strider bike and win a prize at the end of the night. Races start at 7 probably be about 7:30, 8 o'clock in there."
