As we wrap up the month of November; we are going out with a bang!

Cochranites will once again be treated to a dose of double-digit temperatures today, which seems pretty rare for this time of year.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Kyle Fougere, Cochrane actually broke some temperature records this month.

"There were two days that did break all-time high-temperature records," explains Fougere. "Those were November 26 with a temperature of 9.2 which broke the old record of 8.2 set in 2009. The other record was on November 28, [this past ]Sunday -- 13.3 degrees which broke the old record of 13.2  which was set in 2002."

While November of 2021 has certainly been one for the books, Fougere says that overall, it's been a milder fall this year.

"It was definitely a mild November, there were only two days that were below normal and that was the first day and November 17," explains Fougere. "Otherwise it was mild for basically the entire month in fact for all of the fall there's only been two periods of colder temperatures."

Fougere says that while Southern Alberta hasn't seen much in the way of snow or active weather so far, that hasn't been the case provincewide.

"Quite a few storms have been moving through Alberta but for the most part they've been moving through the Northern part of the province," explains Fougere. "That is going to change this week, tomorrow and into Thursday we are expecting a pretty decent low-pressure system to move through the province. It's going to be back to reality for the Cochrane area after these very mild temperatures we've had."

He says that low-pressure system is going to bring much cooler temperatures to Cochrane and you guessed it -- some of the white stuff.

We definitely had a good run this fall, but according to Environment Canada, it's time to break out the shovels and winter toques and get geared up for winter driving.
