The Cochrane Chaos junior female hockey team is kicking off the season with a pair of exhibition games this weekend in preparation for their Sept. 25 regular-season opener.

The Chaos is playing the Calgary Jags on Friday night (Sept. 10) at 7:15 p.m. and again at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 12).

On Sept. 17, they play their final exhibition game against the Central Alberta Amazons.

All three games are at the Cochrane Arena.

The Chaos currently has several players in camp and hasn't finalized its roster. When they do, there will be several new faces.

"We lost four really important pieces to graduation and a couple of others that moved away, so we've seen a bit of a turnover," says head coach Derek Loomer, "but the new girls that we've got have great experience,  look really skilled, and look like they're going to fit into the league right away."

The Alberta Junior Female Hockey League (AJFHL) has added two team teams. The Lakeland Rustlers will be playing out of Lloydminster, and the South Sage will call the Kainai Sports Centre home.

The addition of the teams will see the Central Alberta Amazons return to the south division.

The Chaos will be returning to Totem One in the SLS Family Sports Centre for their regular season.

The last time they played was in October 2020.

"We're really looking forward to getting back on the ice and really hope to get a full season in this year," says Loomer.

Suitably, they're playing the Calgary Titans in the opener. That was the team they were battling in the south final in 2019 before the pandemic shut down hockey.
