While the Cochrane Chaos Jr. female hockey team has had their season opener delayed until this Saturday, Cochrane Minor Hockey (CMHA) remains a huge part of the celebration.

On Sept. 29, a pump failure forced the brief closure of the three Totem arenas in the SLS Family Sports Centre. The rest of the facility wasn't impacted. By 11 a.m. the sports centre was able to announce the mechanical issues had been resolved and the regular schedule resumed by 1 p.m. but the Chaos game had already been canceled.

The Chaos now open their season at home against the Fort Saskatchewan Fury this Saturday (Oct. 5). It's a 2 p.m. start.

Lorne Bremner, CMHA female program director, says the initiation and novice girls will be part of the opening ceremony. They'll be escorting players of the Chaos and Fury on to the ice for the introductions. The minor hockey players will also be playing a mini-game during the first intermission.

Chaos head coach Derek Loomer says the game against the Calgary Jags will be played in December.

While the Chaos game was postponed, the AC Avalanche minor midget AAA team started their season on a high note later that afternoon at Totem One. They beat the CRAA Gold 2-1. The Avalanche return home for the third game of their season against the Bruins this coming Sunday (Oct. 6). The puck drops at 4:15 p.m.
