Not even a global pandemic can stop Cochrane Girl Guides from making sure that Cochranites get their cookies. This year, the Girl Guides of Canada have incorporated an online buying option to make sure their biggest fundraiser of the year is still operational.

Carly Russell, The PR Advisor for the Calgary Area Girl Guides explains what the cookie fundraiser will look like this year in town. "While we still have our usual door to door cookie sales. For people who want to have the option, they have the ability to check out our online cookie sales platform. They can reach out to their local Girl Guide units and even their local connections of girls that they are used to buying their cookies from, and we can provide them a link that will take them directly to their cookie selling site. The cookies are than shipped directly to their door."

"You're buying them directly from your niece or granddaughter or regular connection, but it's still helping out Girl Guides in Canada, and making sure that we are continuing to deliver a fantastic platform for girls across the country."

While going fully online was an option, Russell says that Cochrane's Girl Guides opted to continue to support in person sales as well as the online option."In Cochrane you'll still see some girls, knocking on doors, going door to door in new ways and new fashions with us, COVID safety protocols in place."

The first Girl Guide cookie was sold in 1927 and it continues to be the Guides biggest fundraiser.
