Despite the "Open for Summer" mandate in Alberta, the Cochrane Historical Museum will not open to the public with its regular hours this summer.

The Cochrane Historical and Archival Preservation Society executive made the decision at a recent meeting.

All considerations were based on keeping the volunteers, who are mostly seniors, and the public safe during the pandemic.

Unfortunately, there was no grant money assigned in this year's budget in which to pay for student staffing either.

The board had entertained various scenarios for reopening, including hosting small family group bookings or using a QR code to take a tour.

However, in the end, it was decided not to open for the season.

Volunteers continue to be busy ensuring the museum grounds look nice for the season and can be appreciated if you visit the area.

As well, the virtual museum tour which was launched in November of 2020 during the peak of the pandemic is still available for your viewing pleasure.
