While it may have felt like spring across Southern Alberta over the last couple of weeks, we aren't in the clear just yet.

Cochrane and the surrounding areas are currently under a snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada.

Heavy snow is expected to begin this afternoon and by tomorrow the storm system will intensify bringing more snow in strong upslope flow to our region.

Cochrane could see between 15 and 25 centimetres in total before this system pushes eastward on Saturday evening.

Drivers are being reminded to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions as visibility may be suddenly reduced at times of heavy and blowing snow.

The snowfall warning has been issued for the following areas:

  • Rocky View Co. near Cochrane
  • Mountain View Co. near Carstairs and Stirlingville
  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Mountain View Co. near Olds and Didsbury
  • Mountain View Co. near Sundre
  • Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
  • Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden

The good news is that the system is expected to move out quickly and we're looking at warmer temperatures, above zero by the early part of next week.
