The Town of Cochrane has issued a fire advisory as of 1 pm today (July 6).

With the heat wave, Cochrane Fire Services wants residents to play it safe.

Jeff Avery, Fire Prevention Officer, says an advisory is in effect for the weekend. "People can still have backyard fires and barbeques going and stuff like that. But we're just asking everyone to be extremely careful with this heat wave going through."

Avery, shares they are starting to notice the grass is already becoming sunburnt in some areas with lack of water and extreme heat. "It's just a heads up for people to be more cognizant of what their doing on the weekend. Don't leave fires unattended and make sure they're out completely when you leave them."

As usual, no burning leaves, garbage, or treated wood. Avery suggests saving the monstrous blazes for another weekend; keep fires on the smaller scale and soak the area adjacent to the fire pit with water.

The Fire Advisory shall be in effect as long as the Fire Chief’s Office deems appropriate for the Forest and Prairie Protection Act and Town of Cochrane Fire Bylaw.
