Two members of the Cochrane RCMP have taken it upon themselves to help make sports more accessible to youth.

Corporal Watson from the Cochrane detachment spearheaded the fundraising initiative with the help of Constable Moore; who is the Cochrane detachment's in-house sketch artist. They created a collection of coins and in turn, raised $4,500 for KidSport.

Watson dedicated over 60 hours of his time to help raise funds for the organization which he says is near and dear to him.

"I've personally seen sport turn kids' lives around and provide them [with] a safe place to learn and interact with a positive role model," explains Watson. He continues to say that "As a police officer, it is also a proactive approach to policing."

Each coin in the collection depicts a different sport and features Monty the RCMP safety bear playing sports with kids.

Shaw Charity Classic matched 50 per cent of all funds raised, and a total of $6,750 was presented to KidSport to give less fortunate children an opportunity to participate in sports.
