The Rocky View Schools Board of Trustees has submitted the annual request for modular units to the provincial government.

The Board approved a request for 32 modular units to help alleviate the space shortage in numerous schools in the division with a focus on schools in Cochrane, Airdrie, and Chestermere.

"This request, along with a request to relocate two washroom units, will be immediately submitted to the government for consideration. If approved, these modular units will help mitigate RVS’ enrolment issue in the short term but will also increase the stress on core school buildings which will have more students than they were built to accommodate."

Specific to Cochrane, Manachaban is currently operating at 109 per cent capacity with a projection of 109 per cent in 2023 and 111 per cent in 2024. Therefore, two modular units have been requested.

At Cochrane High, the school is currently at 104 per cent capacity with a projection of 106 per cent in 2023 and 107 per cent in 2024. Two modulars have been requested to help with that space shortage.

The RVS Board will hear if their request is granted by the spring of 2023.
