Cochrane RCMP has laid numerous charges after a string of crimes were perpetrated by a single offender.

On December 27, 2020, Cochrane RCMP received reports of vehicle theft, vehicle break-ins, and a break and enter in the Springbank area. Quick police response resulted in the recovery of the vehicle which was linked to three other offenses in the area. The Cochrane RCMP Crime Reduction Unit arrested eighteen-year-old William Rider of Calgary.

In less than two weeks' time, Cochrane RCMP responded to another vehicle theft in the Quigley Drive area of Cochrane where the owner of the vehicle tried to stop the theft and was dragged by the stolen vehicle. The owner sustained minor injuries. Cochrane RCMP with the assistance of Calgary Police was able to recover the truck and arrest William Rider again.

William Rider is currently facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, mischief, robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and numerous breaches of condition charges with a charge of break enter and theft pending. Rider is set to appear in court on January 13th, 2021.

" One person or a small group of offenders can cause a large amount issues for a community", says Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP.," by focussing our efforts on these select few we can have the greatest impact."
