Cochrane Search and Rescue is a dedicated group of 70 volunteers. Evan Knox, vice president of the organization says whether they are called on the spur of the moment or a search is planned ahead they are always ready, willing and able to help.

Knox explains that Cochrane RCMP are their task agency and that they take their cues from them. "Whatever leads or tips they are working on, they then task us to assist them with that search."

Recently, they conducted the fifth search, in an eight year period looking for Sara Coates and any evidence in that case. Aside from searching an area, Knox says, "Typically though we do take photographs and GPS coordinates."

Corporal Troy Savinkoff was on the latest search for Sara Coates and he said, "the Cochrane Search and Rescue and other search and rescue units in Alberta, have been absolutely phenomenal in helping us."

Needless to say the two groups have a good working relationship and both are providing an invaluable service to Cochrane and area.
